Sam's Club Christmas

Aunt Karol and Uncle Les were wondering what to get our family for Christmas. We weren’t worried about presents, but since she insisted on doing something, we told her the ‘Torkelson Story!’

The Torkelsons were a large homeschooling family we met in Alaska. For special occasions, the parents of this exceptional family would give each child $5 and take them to Costco.

The children were allowed to buy whatever food they wanted and then it would be shared for supper that night. If they didn’t have enough money, they had to talk a sibling into sharing the cost with them.

They had 11 children so they had a smorgasbord! When Mr. and Mrs. Torkelson came to visit our family here in the Lower 48, they did the same thing for our children. It was a blast…very memorable.

I told Karol about the idea, and she liked it. So the Friday before Christmas became ‘Junk Food Friday.’ I really hoped someone would opt for healthy treats, but unless you call pizza healthy, they went for the junk. A blessing with having junk food... Rod was more than happy to do all the cooking!

Thanks Aunt Karol and Uncle Les for making another Christmas memory!
