Even with going so many years, I still couldn’t find the right nursing home. We usually follow the Stangls. Good thing we left early for our tour of several west Blair neighborhoods!
With a new Stangl baby and two busy schedules, singing together this year may never have happened if it hadn't been for pressure from the younger set. They really wanted to sing...
The residents seemed really glad we came.
The Stangls have really been working hard on their instruments in the last year. This year, they brought two guitars, two mandolins and a violin to accompany us while we sang. Little Naomi used to be the one to sing Jingle Bells, but now her sister Chloe has taken her place! Mrs. Stangl shared the gospel , so we’ve been praying that the seeds planted would bear fruit.
The best part of singing at nursing homes is talking to the people afterwards. Justus and Benjamin greeted an old lady who wouldn’t stop kissing Justus’ hand! The older folks like children, though maybe all the kissing is going a little overboard! Most seem lonely and really want to talk if they are able.
The other assisted living home in Ft. Calhoun was even more enjoyable…we sang to them over lunch! These folks were much less debilitated and engaged with us and the children. One man I talked to knew right where I lived and even knew our neighbors.
Thank You, Lord, for the opportunity to encourage these folks and spread some Christmas cheer. Please bring forth fruit from Your gospel…soften hard hearts. Thanks, Stangls, for your friendship and encouragement.
